Interview:

Music has the ability to bypass our over chattering minds and go straight into our hearts. There are no words to describe the way that when we hear a piece of music or see a piece of art, we feel something in our soul that stirs our emotions. Our hearts are the gatekeeper to our soul and when music can open that door a crack, that is where the capacity for love and forgiveness can enter. I recall a time in my life when I was holding on to a grudge about someone and was not wiling to let it go. I was driving along in my car with the radio on and suddenly a song comes on that I remembered being special to this person. In that instant, there was a little crack, a place for a sweet memory to come in, and with that opening the love pushed its way in, and I was left with a feeling of love and ultimately forgiveness.

I am so blessed to be part of a “tribe” of New Thought musicians that promote positive message music. There are many of us singing, writing, and performing songs that have a positive message to inspire and uplift people. I believe that the music we listen to affects our values and how we live in this world. A song that promotes kindness and compassion affects everyone that hears it, and hopefully that message ripples around the world.

Music encourages me to tell the truth. As a songwriter, I have to look into my heart and tell the truth about my values, what I am feeling, what is going on with me, and hopefully say that in a way that other people will be moved. If I am not true to my heart and soul, I believe the listener can feel that and the song will just not work. The feedback I have gotten from my songs always comes down to the more vulnerable and real and true to my values I am the more moving the song will be.

“Love pushed its way in, and I was left with a feeling of love and ultimately forgiveness.”
