Decomposition is a grindcore-micro-noise project from Newport,
Wales. This happy-grindcore-haikore band embraces a number of made-up
genres for ludicrously short songs. Gymnastic Decomposition uses a variety
of innovative production techniques to create their bizarre and brain-blistering
assault of circuit-bent compositions. Many of their recent tracks were
multitracked from drum machines, bass, noise, and vocals sourced from
digital pocket studio warped through digital effects. Gymnastic Decomposition
have a common rule to all their tracks that they must be less than one-minute
long, yet most compositions just reach a few seconds in duration. Referential
influences from their music include Fantômas, Lightning Bolt, The
Melvins, Merzbow, Napalm Death, and the button-bashing pleasures of Nintendo. Gymnastic Decomposition is under the creative supervision of animator, artist, and noisician Tim Drage. He also produces stop motion animations and short surrealist films with his London-based company Spite Your Face Productions. Music videos have been made for Gymnastic Decomposition's "Robots A Loaf", "Too Many Broken Hearts", and the legendary "Yaho!", all of which are freely downloadable from their website. Highlights from their extremely miniature compositions include the pseudo-death-metal track "You Killed All My Kittens" that features caterwauling from a circuit-bent animal-piano. The track "Potato" has vocals from a homemade Grassjelly sampler mixed and mangled from a circuit board of a greeting card message recorder. Tim Drage also has an impressive collection of circuit-bent toys and devices with detailed descriptions published online. He defines his dynamic music with Gymnastic Decomposition as "stupidly short, stupidly noisy, stupidly stupid songs!" This curious collective is a special side-project comprised of various collaborators from the bands Cementimental and Snork Maiden. Gymnastic Decomposition are SnoWee Cirkle [Guitar & Noise], Trust Tony [Vocals], Harold [Vocals & Noise], D.A.V.E [Drums], and Dr. Age [Circuit-Bending, Computronics, Electrification]. Most of the musicians are dispersed all over the U.K. and this consistantly proves to be a logistical nightmare for future live shows. Gymnastic Decomposition's debut live performance was at the OTT in Newport on June 11, 2003, featuring special guest musicians and a special VCD release of this rare encounter will be emerging soon. Gymnastic Decomposition will also have a split release with anime-themed noisecore act Princess Army Wedding Combat. Also look out for record label No Ground-R that will be releasing Gymnastic Decomposition's fifty-four track mini-album "The Egg Is Magnetic" on a three-inch CD during Summer 2006. |
