Interview:

Music is part of the spirituality that has evolved independently across the world. Music is both spiritual and tribal, and even in sport today you will find football fans singing for their team, that seems to them like the most natural thing to do. Music is mentioned throughout the Bible, and the Psalms are really songs. Music moves us, touches our soul, and if we hear a tune we like, we remember the lyrics to the song straight away. Music moves with the times. My band Blade Of Truth produce evangelizing Indie-Rock music, so we can reach people who like our style of music with a message, as we are told to restore people gently [Galatians 6:1]. I have heard it said that Christian Rock is a bad thing, but Paul said whatever state you were in when you came to faith, remain so. [1 Corinthians 7:20 – “Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him.”]

A body needs all its parts. I think that sweeping statements like saying “Christian Rock is bad”, is in itself a bad thing. It’s like saying, all pastors are good and without sin. You get good and bad in all things, and I would say, who are you to judge some else’s servant. Anyway by judging others you will only bring judgment on your own head. [Matthew 7:2 – “For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”]

Traditional hymn singing churches may not like the happy-clappy services, and Evangelical churches may not like Christian Rock, and Quakers like silence. But what does God like? Well, God is love. [1 John 4:8 – “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”] In John 14:21, Jesus says “Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.” Want God to work in your life? Well, follow what He says, it’s that simple. Jesus said “He who is not with me is against me” [Matthew 12:30], and “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me” [John 10:14]. I personally believe that there are true believers in all faiths, and in God’s time He will reach out to them.
